With events surrounding COVID-19 rapidly evolving, the Food and Farming Network has decided to postpone our March 18th Food & Farming Summit until a later date. We look forward to assembling with you and resuming this important work. We invite you all to take this opportunity to focus on the health and well-being of those closest to you, the resiliency of our local food system, and how intimately they are connected to each other. 2018 One Sheet Metrics
Quantifying a food system is quite the task, and the Northwest Michigan Food and Farming Network is here to bring you the best our network has to offer in data representation! These five infographic sheets correspond to each of our five task forces: Food Access, Local Food Sales, Farmland Resources, Farm to Institution, and Agribusiness Generation.
By collaboration throughout the network to bring together the most accurate, relevant and compelling information as possible, we hope to track our progress in localizing our food economy and identifying areas of concern which need to be addressed by network collaboration.

Hot off the presses! This ‘Guide to Food Assistance and Eating Local’ was developed by over 10 organizations affiliated with our Food Access Task Force. It is a comprehensive, community-based resource that includes information on a broad range of topics, from tips to shopping at farmer’s markets to food preservation methods and much more. Printed versions are being distributed to limited-income families at food pantries throughout our region. View a preview and access the full version here.
Did you know that over 83,000 acres of farmland in the Grand Traverse region will change hands within the next ten years as farmers retire and transition out of ownership? Luckily a new web platform designed to aid this land transfer is now LIVE! Farmer to Farmer features agricultural land for sale or lease, as well as job openings in our local food system.
In 2016, the Food and Farming Network began awarding “mini-grants”—small amounts of seed money for innovative, collaborative projects to enhance our local food system. Read the comprehensive mini-grant report and other network publications here.
We’re proud to announce that George and Sally Shetler from the Shetler Family Dairy in Kalkaska, Michigan were presented with the 2017 Chapman Award. Read more about that here.
